“Only a few years ago, the educational system was in complete disarray. The curriculum was dominated by calls for Jihad and violence. There was a lack of adequate instruction for females. And, perhaps worst of all, the paradigm that education was not an essential part of life was growing. In just a few short years, however, the level of commitment by the Afghan people to their education has grown exponentially.”

-Yama Kharoti, Director Green Village Schools
"It is not time for fighting, it is time to study and build the country and help the people of Afghanistan."

“The motto of Partnership for Education of Children in Afghanistan (P.E.C.A.) is ‘Building Peace, One School at a Time.’ We believe that all children should receive an education, because education is the best means of achieving stability and safeguarding against extremist ideologies. Education is also a source of joy and inspiration and an end unto itself. We believe that Afghan children are victims of circumstances beyond their control, and that one of the ways to ameliorate the past injustices that they have suffered is to provide them with an education. Education is a source of social and economic advancement as well as a vehicle for teaching children to be good citizens.”

—Dr. Ghafar Lakanwal, Founder, Partnership for Education of Children in Afghanistan
