We are not out to save the world but to tell the stories
of those who are.

Bethel fosters a caring upbringing for each child. Highly trained staff members encourage their students to look beyond their disability. Specialists work with each child to address their specific needs. Providing health care, physical therapy and a balanced education, Bethel creates an atmosphere where these children can flourish.

To develop a sense of family, Bethel encourages the children to express themselves freely. From left to right: Wen Jun, 11, Xiao Guang, 17, Yuan Yuan, 10, Xiao Hua, 9, and li Ming, 7.
As children become young adults, they are provided with job training to ensure that they have the skills to become independent. In addition the students participate in cultural and social activities.

The Gauvains have made such an impact on the lives of these children that plans for expansion are being developed. Their commitment is best expressed by Guillaume Gauvain, “Someone once said that ‘love is blind,’ and this could not be more true at Bethel. One would expect blind orphans to be sad, dependent, hopeless, but that is not the case at Bethel. Here, you will find a place full of excited, happy kids running, jumping, emailing, singing and playing the piano — just like any kids in a safe and loving environment. Blind or not, we believe they have the right to be in a joyful place where a parental figure can foster the desire [for the children] to achieve their dreams.”
