KYRA CARPENTER
After a profound experience volunteering at a Costa Rican orphanage, Kyra Carpenter knew that she would devote her life to helping others. She has assisted humanitarian efforts in Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Israel and the US. She also spent time aboard a Mercy Ship, the Caribbean Mercy in 2001. Currently managing editor of NEED, Carpenter is dedicated to assisting people in need through sharing their inspirational stories. |

LINDA CULLEN
Linda Cullen is a Minnesota-based photojournalist who specializes in images from places of conflict. She has covered stories of humanitarian interest in Rwanda, Sudan, Iraq, Pakistan, Kenya, Afghanistan, Kashmir, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Her work has been featured in a number of international publications. She has worked with a variety of international relief organizations, including: CARE International, the American Refugee Committee and Save the Children, among others. |

MACIEJ DAKOWICZ
Born in Bialystok, Poland, Maciej Dakowicz is a software engineer. He is currently living in Cardiff, Wales, working as a researcher and studying for his Ph.D at the University of Glamorgan, but his real passion is photography. Dakowicz has traveled throughout Asia and elsewhere as an amateur photographer. His photo galleries appear as the “Most Popular of All Time” on pbase.com because of his expressive humanistic style. Dakowicz has been interested in photography for only three short years, yet his images show the promise of a brilliant photographer. |

TED HADDOCK
Ted Haddock is communications manager and photographer with International Justice Mission. He is a graduate of Furman University and the Indiana University School of Fine Arts. In 2000, Haddock worked as editorial assistant at Magnum Photos in New York. His photographic work has taken him to numerous countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East; he has appeared in a variety of media outlets, publications and exhibitions. Haddock serves as a voice for the voiceless by communicating stories of abuse, oppression, rescue and hope. |

SCOTT HARRISON
After a decade of producing A-list parties in New York City, Scott Harrison was at the top of the nightlife scene. Two years ago, he packed it in for a new life on a Mercy Ship in poverty-stricken West Africa with a group of volunteer doctors, dentists and surgeons. He used his cameras in documenting the extreme poverty he saw as well as the hope restored by the team, and he produced a 10-day exhibition titled mercy, which raised over $96,000. Harrison has now started a new non-profit focusing on building global exhibitions on poverty simply called charity. |

THOMAS HOMMEYER
Thomas Hommeyer is currently media project officer with the International Rescue Committee. He has 15 years experience in television, documentary film and as a freelance photographer/videographer for a number of international nongovernmental organizations. His work has taken him to a variety of locations, including Russia, Haiti, Brazil, Peru, Sri Lanka and Thailand, just to name a few. |

STEPHANIE KINNUNEN
Inspired by life-changing humanitarian projects around the world, a concept to help those in need through art and media began to take shape. Stephanie Kinnunen, editor in chief of NEED magazine, and her husband Kelly Kinnunen, founded NEED magazine to convey the personal stories of people involved with humanitarian assistance. Their goal is to create an artistic, hope-filled publication that will raise awareness, drive contributions and encourage volunteerism. |

STEVE McCURRY
Steve McCurry, recognized universally as one of today’s finest image makers, has won many of photography’s top awards. His pictures, in the finest documentary tradition, capture the essence of human struggle and joy. As a member of Magnum Photos since 1986, McCurry has searched and found the unforgettable; many of his images have become modern icons. McCurry’s most recent book “Looking East” (September 2006) is published by Phaidon Press, Ltd. |

MATTHEW PRITCHARD
Born in Alberta, Canada, Matthew Pritchard has studied international development and geography in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States. As the managing editor of humanitarian affairs for NEED magazine, Pritchard combines his passion for post-conflict development and political ecology with research, volunteer and work experience on three continents. |

HANNAH RIESGRAF
Bethel University graduate, Hannah Riesgraf, studied media communications with an art and history emphasis. She has further studied in Florence, Italy, and backpacked to parts of Western Europe. Both her time spent abroad and volunteering at home has given her a passion for photojournalism to help capture the human experience. |

LESLIE SPURLOCK
Leslie Spurlock has been photographing Third World countries for the past 15 years. Her work has been sold to such clients as Compaq, Kelsey-Siebold and Hermann Hospital for their corporate art collections. She has been published in a variety of international magazines and worked with a number of different nongovernmental organizations. She is currently documenting the good work that both foreigners and Haitians are doing within the country of Haiti, as well as creating a long-term photo essay on restaveks, legalized child slaves in Haiti. |

CANDICE TOWELL
Candice Towell’s photographs have been published by numerous publications and have earned her regional and national awards. She currently resides in Reno, Nevada, with her family and works as a staff photographer for the Reno Gazett-Journal. Towell became interested in humanitarian projects when documenting the struggles of eight Sudanese “Lost Boys” integrating into American culture. She continues to have close contact with the boys. Towell’s focus is to use photojournalism to raise awareness and funding for impoverished and displaced people. |

LIZ WERNER
Liz Werner holds a degree in journalism with a minor in women’s studies from the University of Minnesota. She enjoys the process of researching and crafting communications projects. As senior writer and communications specialist for NEED magazine, she is able to equally utilize her skills in writing and strategic thinking. Werner values hard work, quality, individuality, purpose and being good to others. |

PETER YLITALO LEPPA
Peter Ylitalo Leppa recently graduated from the University of Minnesota, with a bachelor of arts in English and a focus on creative writing. His writing interests range from non-fiction to short-fiction and children’s literature. In writing, Leppa’s goal is to maintain complexity of subject matter, but simplicity of prose. Recently Leppa has spent time in Finland studying the Finnish language and meeting relatives from his ancestry. |
